deepest condolences

"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it’s really how it works. The design of the Mac wasn’t what it looked like, although that was part of it. Primarily, it was how it worked. To design something really well, you have to get it. You have to really grok what it’s all about. It takes a passionate commitment to really thoroughly understand something, chew it up, not just quickly swallow it. Most people don’t take the time to do that." - Steve Jobs, Wired February 1996.

This man. He's one of several reasons why I chose industrial design as my major. Back then in 2007, when i entered university, my father pushed me to buy a macbook as my first laptop. it changed everything. i was that sceptical to iPod. I hate iTunes. I thought it was inconvenience. you couldn't copy and just paste your song everywhere like Zune or another music player. But a week after I bought my first laptop that I named Uto, all of that thoughts were disappear. No, I didn't read any manual book or any 'how to' books. Me as an user loved to do trial and error.

At first, i want to choose Visual Communication Design as my major. that's why my father told me to use mac. but after several weeks owning a mac, I choose industrial design. I read about Steve Jobs somewhere, about how he wanted to make an interactive product, about his design, about Apple's GUI (well GUI is graphical thingies, thought) about apple's philosophy. it blew me away. it's long before i know who Philippe Starck is, or Naoto Fukasawa is. (turns out, they should be put as one in several reason to choose industrial design as your major)

On the day when he resigned from his role as a CEO, i was that mad. I was upset, i didn't want to use any of apple product that day. But when i read about his reason, i feel bad, then wishing the best for his health.

then i woke up this morning, opening twitter and read the news. i am shocked. yes, i'm still shocked until now. even one of my friend sent his condolence to me. i sent my thought about him to apple's rememberingsteve email.

You could say that i'm an Apple fangirl. yes i am. I sent Steve Jobs a happy birthday message when he's having his birthday.. i slept late just because waiting for the presentation. every presentation. Siri blew me away.  no, I'm not using my macbook again, i need a new one with a better hardware and cheaper price and cheaper maintenance. i'll be back soon to macbook, someday. when i could afford it, by myself. mark my word, Mr Steve. (and if you could ask dear God for fastforwarding my will, i'll be that happy)

Rest In Peace, Genius. There must be a wifi connection in heaven.

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” - Steve Jobs, The Wall Street Journal, May 1993
